August 24, 2006—Watkins Manufacturing, maker of Hot Spring® spas — the world’s number one selling brand of portable spas was recently named one of “San Diego’s Best Places to Work” by Employers Group and San Diego Magazine.

Earlier this year, over 4,000 San Diego employers and employees were asked to share what makes working for their company special in a survey conducted by Employers Group, the nation’s largest non-profit human resource and management services association. After a six-month process, the field was narrowed to 104 semi-finalists. A random sampling of employees at each company completed a confidential satisfaction survey, which led to the final selections.

The 30 companies chosen were an eclectic group, from industries ranging from biomedical engineering to food service. Only 10 companies from each of the three employee-size categories (large, medium, small) were chosen as best workplaces, and received coverage in San Diego Magazine’s September issue. Watkins Manufacturing ranked 7th in the “Large – 500 or More Employees” category, among other leading San Diego companies such as Scripps Health, Loews Coronado Bay Resort & Spa, and National University.

“Our employees are our greatest asset — we realize that it takes more than a paycheck and health benefits to make for a satisfied and productive workforce,” said Sandra Shuda, Vice President of Human Resources at Watkins Manufacturing. “We really try to create an atmosphere where our employees feel connected and inspired, as well as provide an opportunity to accomplish both personal and professional goals,” said Shuda. “We are so pleased to receive this award — it’s a wonderful reflection of our employee satisfaction,” said Shuda.
