The ACE® system contains a special diamond electrode that automatically creates five different powerful and effective cleaners for your hot tub from just a small amount of salt and your spa's water. When the diamond electrode is energized, it breaks apart water molecules to create active oxygen. Active oxygen is one of the world's most effective natural cleaners and is the first way the ACE system automatically cleans the water. The active oxygen then combines with salt and other elements in the water to create chlorine and three other powerful oxidizers.
In this fun animated video our sixth grade science teacher, Mr. Monroe, explains how the advanced technology that drives the ACE system, makes owning a Hot Spring spa simple and easy.
In this video you'll learn how the exclusive use of diamonds enables the ACE system to clean spa water more effectively, and provides a more luxurious soaking experience.
Since the ACE system automatically generates cleaners, you'll have fewer bottled products to measure and pour. This more hands-free approach saves you time, so it's easier than ever to care for your Hot Spring® spa. To get started, just add the appropriate amount of salt to balanced water. Using the easy-to-navigate menus on the spa's main control panel, enter your spa's size and your expected use level. Simply check the sanitizer level regularly with a test strip, and confirm your use level monthly. A status message on the control panel lets you know that the ACE system is cleaning the water so you can relax.
The ACE system generates the precise amount of cleaners your Hot Spring spa requires based on its size and your use level. Since there are no excess chemicals, which often occurs with manual dosing, your spa water should last longer between changes. That conserves water and saves you money. When you do drain your spa, the water has less impact on the environment because only salt has been added to the balanced water.
The ACE salt water sanitizing system leaves your spa water sparkling clean and silky soft. The cleaners are generated from salt and water, so you're less likely to experience the dry itchy skin, irritated red eyes, or harsh odor of traditional chlorine water care.
Traditional salt water systems use titanium electrodes capable of producing only chlorine. The ACE system uses a unique solid diamond electrode along with two titanium electrodes. The patented diamond electrode increases the sanitizing power, while using less salt, and generates 5 different cleaners instead of just chlorine.
The diamond electrode in the ACE system generates high energy active oxygen from water. The active oxygen is the first way the ACE system cleans the water. Once the water is clean, the active oxygen combines with just a little bit of salt to produce 4 more cleaners –chlorine as well as ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and MPS. (Note that MPS generation is dependent on having pH down present in the water.)
The ACE system is currently an option for Hot Spring spas built on or after August 5, 2009. Contact your local Hot Spring dealer to find out if your Hot Spring spa is compatible with the ACE system.
Like bottled chlorine, the chlorine generated by the ACE system is sodium hypochlorite. However, bottled chlorine contains stabilizers like cyanuric acid. When bottled chlorine is repeatedly added to spa water, the cyanuric acid can accumulate over time causing irritation to the skin and eyes. With the ACE system there are no stabilizing acids added to the water – so the water is gentler and more enjoyable.
The ACE system cleans the water with Active Oxygen first, without creating chlorinated or brominated byproducts. It is these byproducts that ultimately lead to the strong chlorine or bromine smell often associated with traditional spa water care. It is less likely you will experience any strong chlorine odor when using the ACE salt water sanitizing system.
The ACE system automatically generates powerful cleaners and the required sanitizer – chlorine – needed to keep spa water clean and safe. In doing so it eliminates much of the daily or weekly water care requirements of traditional systems. As the spa owner you still are ultimately responsible for the safety of your water and must be sure to do all of the following:
Table salt is not recommended for use with the ACE system because it contains iodine and anti-caking agents that will interfere with the ACE system operation and may cause staining of the spa shell. Salt for the ACE system is available through your local Hot Spring Spas dealer.
On average, the salt level of tap water is around 500 ppm. The target salt level for spa water when using the ACE salt water sanitizing system is 1,000 ppm – which is virtually undetectable by taste or smell. For comparison, the salt level of sea water is approximately 35,000 ppm.
Pools systems use up to 5,000 ppm of salt. High salt levels, like those used in a pool, combined with unstable water in a spa, can corrode equipment over time. The unique diamond technology used by the ACE system allows salt levels to be at a minimal 1,000 – 1,500 ppm which helps prevent corrosion.
